We’ve all been lured in by free trial offers for streaming services, monthly subscription boxes, and memberships. But I let things get out of hand, forgetting to cancel trials or services I didn’t need. Before I knew it, I was drowning in sneaky recurring fees that wracked up my credit card debt.
Let me tell you about a few:
- That fancy meal kit service – Sure, the first week of gourmet meals was nice, but did I really need $70 worth of pre-portioned ingredients showing up every week? I forgot to cancel after the trial and got charged for 3 more weeks.
- The clothes rental service – Renting a monthly rotating wardrobe sounded fun at first, but after 2 months of $90 charges, I’d only worn a few items. Off to the back of my closet it went while my bank account continued to be charged.
- Three different streaming services – When each one only has a couple shows you like, do you really need Netflix, Hulu AND Amazon Prime Video? The $30+ in monthly fees added up fast while I barely watched them.
- The unused gym membership – After going hardcore for a month or two, my gym motivation quickly fizzled out. But my auto-renew membership meant money kept getting sucked from my account for a membership gathering dust.
With all these forgotten subscriptions, my credit card debt and monthly expenses piled up fast! Now I’m diligently reviewing all recurring charges and canceling anything I don’t use. My bank account is finally starting to thank me.
