We’ve all treated ourselves to the occasional splurge meal or fancy cup of coffee. But my food spending spiraled out of control this year. I found myself mindlessly indulging in every food craving, despite the financial toll it took.
Here are just a few of my most regrettable food purchases that racked up my credit card debt:
- Getting takeout multiple times a week instead of cooking at home. Those $15-$20 meals really add up!
- Stopping at Starbucks daily for my $5 vanilla latte and bakery treat, even though I have coffee at home.
- Always getting appetizers, drinks, and dessert when dining out with friends. I can’t resist those $12 margaritas and $10 lava cakes!
- Splurging on overpriced “superfoods” and trendy diets with little payoff. $50 for a bag of mushroom coffee or $75 for a week’s worth of meal delivery kits. Yikes!
- Indulging in late night pizza and wings for a quick fix despite having food at home. A $25 delivery charge really kills my budget.
- Grabbing pre-made salads and sandwiches for lunch instead of packing my own. At $10-12 each time, that’s $50+ a week down the drain.
- Stopping at the grocery store daily for unneeded impulse snacks and treats instead of doing one big planned trip. All those $5 candy bars, bags of chips, and stops at the Starbucks line really add up.
My food spending was seriously out of control. I mindlessly indulged in every craving without considering the financial impact. But by planning affordable meals, limiting food delivery and takeout, and avoiding impulse purchases, I’ve finally reined in my food budget. My wallet thanks me!
